About This Trip
Birding in South Texas isn't complete without a trip down the Rio Grande River. There are many species that can only be seen from the river area. Some of those species include, Osprey, Belted, Green and Ringed Kingfishers, various ducks, multiple hawks, Egrets. Join a friend of the Valley Nature Center as he takes you on a 3-hour ride of the Rio Grande River out of Mission Texas. This trip is limited to four guest plus a guide. Water and snacks available. There is no formal restroom on boat, but nature leaves many options for those so inclined.

Matt Crocker is a Rio Grande Valley native and avid river birder who has spent years exploring the Rio Grande by boat, learning its channels, sandbars, and the birds that call its corridor home. A wildlife photographer shooting with a Nikon Z8, Matt brings a sharp eye for spotting and identifying species along the river — from Green Kingfishers perched on overhanging branches to Red-billed Pigeons soaring above the canopy. On this trip, he'll captain his pontoon boat for a relaxed float down the Rio Grande, offering a perspective of the river habitat you simply can't get from the bank. Whether you're a seasoned lister or a curious beginner, Matt's laid-back style and deep love for the Valley's natural heritage make for an unforgettable morning on the water.
