Don’t miss these sites in the coastal prairie and riparian corridor near Brownsville, with high species potential! Sabal Palm Sanctuary, one of the last tracts of Sabal Palm forest in the USA, is well known for rarities and migrants, thanks to wetlands, forest and proximity to the Rio Grande. In the Coastal Prairie we’ll be looking for Cassin’s Sparrow, Botteri’s Sparrow, Gull-billed Tern and Aplomado Falcon, among other birds of the open country. We’ll also visit the resacas or oxbow lakes of downtown Brownsville seeking out water birds we may have missed earlier.
