About This Trip

Spring Chirp: Night Hike at Estero Llano Grande State Park

Experience one of the Rio Grande Valley’s favorite natural places in a whole new way! Join us for a special evening hike at Estero Llano Grande State Park, just before sunset, when the landscape begins to transform and the Valley’s nighttime wildlife comes to life.

We’ll begin with a brief but spectacular presentation from a Park Naturalist about the fascinating nocturnal creatures that call the park home. Then, as darkness settles in, we’ll head out on the trails with park staff to search for herps, creepy crawlies, and anything else that decides to make an appearance!

UV black lights will be available for participants to use, making it easier to spot some of the Valley’s fascinating nighttime residents. You’re also welcome to bring your own small flashlight.

Possible sightings include: bark scorpions, tarantulas, reptiles, amphibians, Common Pauraques, owls, including Eastern Screech-Owls, Barn Owls, and Great Horned Owls, and, of course, whatever other surprises the night has in store!

Come experience the Valley after dark and discover a side of Estero Llano Grande State Park that many visitors never get to see. You never know what we’ll find once the sun goes down!
